Instrument Integration |
One of the most exciting parts of my research is traveling to different observatories or field sites for instrument commissioning. I have been a part of the SuperCam integration on the Sub-millimeter telescope on Mt. Grahm in Arizona, and I have been part of the STO-2 integration team at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. I wrote a blog post about why scientists launch balloon-borne telescopes from Antarctica on the ASU Explorers blog. My role on the team is in beam characterization and feedhorn development, but I have been a part of many aspects of the campaign such as cable harnessing, instrument alignment, pointing and focusing determination, software development for calibration measurements, and mission operations.
